Walking

The pyrenees has hundreds of kilometres of footpaths that weave through the mountains and countryside. Favourite places to visit are the Lesponne valley, Lac Bleu and Payolle but why not make your own route !

Wildlife

The wildlife in the area is extensive, vultures can often be seen circling the mountains, wild boars live in the woods and the area is home to numerous red squirre !... ton name but a few !

Eyeling

The Campan Valley has been made famous by being one of the hardest climbs in the Tour de France which goes through in July. Therefore the area is very popular for road cyclists who like to test themselves by visiting the Col du Tourmalet and Col d'Aspin by bike! Mountain biking (VTT) is also popular and there are many labelled routes throughout the mountains which are graded green, blue, red and black as in skiing.

Climbing

Only 20 minutes walk from Gibson Grange there is a limestone sports crag (all bolted) with over 30 routes to climb of all abilities.

Aquensis

After a hard day walking or biking how about relaxing at Aquensis at the local spa town of Bagneres de Bigorre.

Grottes de Medous

Visit the local caves that were found in 1948. Stalactites and stalagmites and waterfalls they are a tourist attraction of natural beauty.

Pic du Midi

The Pic du Midi de Bigorre or simply Pic du Midi (altitude 2,877 metres [9,439 feet]) is a mountain in the French Pyrenees famous for its astronomical observatory. You can visit the observatory by cable car from La Mongie ski resort... a great way of seeing the varied mountainous landscape and learn more about the stars !

Villages, towns

Why not visit the local towns and villages of ste marie de campan and campan famous for its mariolles (life size dolls) which can be seen throughout the village during the summer months. The local spa town of bagneres de bigorre has lots to offer including numerous restaurants and bars. The market on Saturdays is well worth a visit with lots of local produce on sale.
Or go further a field to lourdes famous for its holy water (only 40 minutes drive from gibson grange) or take a trip to the spectacular canyons in northern spain, only an hours drive.
