La Mongie/Barèges

La Mongie/Bareges ski resort is only a 20 minute drive from Gibson Grange. It is one of the largest resorts in the Pyrenees and is great for all ability of skier/boarder. There are 43 lifts and over 100km of piste.

Runs are as follows : 24 green 20 blue 20 red 5 black

As well as the downhill pistes there is also a snow park on the Bareges side of the Col du Tourmalet for the more daring amongst you and cross country routes round the pine forest in Bareges.

Payolle
Cross country/beginner downhill

Payolle is popular amongst cross country skiers as it offers a vast number of routes through pine forests and around the lake which vary from green for beginners through to black for the expert cross country skier.
There is also a small green downhill piste at Payolle and button lift which is ideal for beginner skiers to practice their skills.

The area has a small number of restaurants for refreshments and a couple of shops for hiring equipment.

Pic du Midi

The Pic du Midi de Bigorre or simply Pic du Midi (altitude 2,877 metres [9,439 feet]) is a mountain in the French Pyrenees famous for its astronomical observatory. You can visit the observatory by cable car from La Mongie ski resort... a great way of seeing the varied mountainous landscape and learn more about the stars !

After a hard day walking or biking how about relaxing at Aquensis at the local spa town of Bagneres de Bigorre.
